After-Party for Tour of the Unattended

T-Shirt The week of the Tour of the Unattended had a finale like no other race out there.  Unattendees and un-unattendees packed the Ride Studio Cafe Saturday night and celebrated in style as hurricane Irene was making her approach.

After a week of time trialing each of the 5 stages - something most road bikers would never so much as consider, it was time to enjoy some quality time together. The stories from the Tour were numerous. Chip Baker captured many of the tales from the road on his blog for each day:

Stage 1 - Dover, Cannibal Style Stage 2 - Solo Break Stage 3 - You Can't Handle the Truth Stage 4 - Red Dawn Stage 5 - Master Says Faster

And there were other tales & awards given for the events - flat tires, "mountain" climbing, cheerleaders - that went down over the week. Read on for more pictures and a full list of the winners.

Michele S. was awarded Most Helpful on the women's side as she was great about updating the Tour of the Unattended Facebook page with useful route tips and kept other racers current on the day's happenings. She even called in the middle of one stage to report on road construction.  Chip Baker represented for the men's category for most helpful in doing course recon, getting the word out & helping in a lot of random ways. Dave Nanian also took home Most Helpful for many reasons including Tour Technology Service Course. The full list of winners is below.

Not only did racers learn a lot about how to do a "race of truth" as time trials are known to be, but also it was an opportunity to get used to using GPS technology. Garmin Edge 500s and Edge 800s were the most commonly used by unattendees, but iPhones were also employed for recording route data.

Check back as pictures from the event are posted on our Facebook page.

The party was really fun and a great way to wrap up the festivities, it was a full house!

More Tours of the Unattended will be held considering the great turnout and success of this event!
