Fat Bikes

Why Ride a Fat Bike?

Riding in the snow is peaceful and primitive, and some of the best fun to be had in the winter - or really, all year. You can hear the snow crunching under your tires. It's such a quiet time; all sound is suppressed by the snow. No one is out on the roads and trails. The bugs are gone. You float through it with perfect comfort, warmth, and calm. Don’t worry about anything; with studded tires, ice is fun (yes, fun) to ride.

Fat bikes offer greater stability over all surfaces and they make riding easier. For people who have concerns about falling, the best answer is a really big tire.

Why ride a Honey or Seven Titanium Fat Bike?

  • Titanium - the way Seven and Honey build bikes - is durable and intended to last you a lifetime. Not all titanium in the world is built the same or sourced responsibly. This is very important for one who adventurers off the beaten path. You never have to worry about your frame cracking or sustaining damage from any of the riding you'll be doing on it.

  • Having a frame with proprietary components and press-fit bottom brackets is full of issues in terms of being able to find parts in the future, and having creaking on the bike. It's nice to have a silent bike while in nature. Press-fit BBs are not made for anyone with an adventuresome spirit.

  • Galvanic corrosion on a non-metal frame is a serious issue that few people realize but many experience. Riding in the winter accentuates this issue. Basically, the corrosion finds the metal pieces on a non-metal bike and these pieces disintegrate rapidly. This is an issue for cable stops, bottle cage bolts, and more. It's a headache at best, but it can lead to not being able to operate the bike since things like cable stops are critical to the bike's shifting and braking.

  • Having a bike with quality components will mean less time (and therefore money) spent servicing the bike. These dollars add up fast where it comes to keeping inferior components tuned and working optimally for you.

  • Titanium is light weight. Seven and Honey fat bikes are among the lightest fat bikes built. There are a few lighter fat bikes in the world, but they won’t last nearly as long as a Seven or Honey titanium fat bike. The value of these fat bikes is incredibly high.

  • Titanium rides with a plushness and liveliness. It's got the best ride qualities of all frame materials. It's even better when it's well-designed into a frame, which is true for the Seven and Honey bikes.

    • When the frame absorbs roughness of the trail, this helps the tires stick to the ground rather than jump off of the ground. This equates to stability for you, comfort over your long rides, and the feeling of wanting to get right back on the bike for another ride.

  • Get a bike you’ll fall in love with and get really excited about! The liveliness and responsiveness of a frame equates directly to how much you’ll have a “love” connection with your bike. If you haven’t loved a bike before, give yourself this chance to fall in love with one.

  • Honey and Seven Cycles frames are built in Massachusetts by cyclists and craftspeople who love and live for riding bikes. There’s a good chance you’ll meet the person who built your frame on a bike ride. If you need anything from the frame manufacturer for any reason, they’re easily accessible.

  • You’re buying a bike that was very thoughtfully designed and created for you and your riding. You will feel the difference. We only work with companies and suppliers who have your riding as their top priority.

Honey Bikes BiFrost

What is the Honey BiFröst Converter Titanium bike?

The Honey Bifröst, pronounced /ˈbīfrôst/ or ‘byefrost,’ is a handmade titanium dual wheel offering designed specifically for the harshest environments of snow, sand, primitive trails, rocky and rooty terrain, and unknown territory. The BiFrost is ready for anything you’re up for, and then some.

The term “Converter” means that this bike was designed specifically for two very different types of wheels. This sounds simple but it’s actually rather challenging to optimize a bike design for two conflicting wheel sizes and ride styles. The BiFrost comes with a “fat” 26” x 4.6” wheel system and a “plus” 27.5” x 3.0” wheel set. Learn more details of Honey’s unique Converter Wheel System.

Why dual wheels? One of the unique aspects of the Honey BiFrost is how it handles both wheel sizes perfectly. Honey can provide a versatile bike that’s fast when plus and adventuresome when fat. Over the past decade Honey has figured out how to push frame design in new ways so they can offer two bikes in one — and without limitation in either mode. This is a true four season bike with no compromise in any season.

These particular BiFrosts are 21.5”, built for snow riding, to float in the snow, be impervious to corrosion and all of the foul weather found in winter, and they are very lightweight. A heavy fat bike is less fun than one that feels and rides light.

Remember that when you go fat biking, you’re going to want to add gear to your bike and body, adding additional weight to the setup.

The titanium frame offers plush ride qualities to the riders. The parts chosen for these bikes are SRAM GX shifting, RaceFace fat cranksets, Shimano hydraulic braking. Wheels: HED Big Aluminum Deal, tires are 45NRTH Wrathchild 4.6” studded tires.

Ask us to demo a BiFrost, (we have a larger one and a small one fitting riders of almost every height from 4’ 10” - 6’ 3”). These bikes will impress you and leave you wanting so much more fat riding!

Fat Bike, Fat Tires

This is indeed where fat bikes get their name, from the massive tires and wheels.  You can choose between Fat and Plus or get both with the Converter system. The Honey BiFrost is optimized for “fat” 26” x 4.8” wheels and “plus” 27.5” x 2.8” tires. This is the ultimate adventure bike in any weather — snow, sand, wet, primitive. Fast when ‘plus’ and adventuresome when ‘fat.’
